When is the Cheapest Time to Fly to Riyadh?

The best time to get amazing deals on flights to Riyadh is to travel during the shoulder months, in April or October. The weather is pleasant and prices are low. Winter is peak season because that’s when the weather is best for visiting the city. Summer is low season and Riyadh flights are generally cheaper then, but temperatures are much higher. If you’re flexible with dates or willing to wait, Netflights will help you find budget-friendly deals on last-minute flights so you can save even during the more popular months.

When is the Best Time to Book your Flight to Riyadh?

The best time to book flights to Riyadh is well in advance, at least 3 months, to avoid rising costs as your departure date approaches. It’s also a good idea to fly on a weekday instead of the weekend to avoid higher costs. Selecting the flexible dates option on Netflights.com will help you find the cheapest day for return flights.

Flying to King Khalid International Airport (RUH)

King Khalid International Airport (RUH) is 35 km north of Riyadh.
There are a number of options for flights to Riyadh departing from several UK airports, including London Heathrow, Manchester Airport and Edinburgh Airport. However, most airlines offer only indirect flights to RUH with one or two stopovers in cities like Dubai, Frankfurt, Istanbul and Paris, and this may involve changing airline, but don’t worry – Netflights can help you find the best route with well-known airlines like Air France, British Airways, Egypt Air, Emirates Airlines, Etihad Airways, Gulf Air, Lufthansa, Saudi Arabian Airlines and Turkish Airlines. Direct flights to Riyadh are only available from London Heathrow with Saudi Arabian Airlines and British Airways.

On Arrival and Getting Around the Airport

King Khalid International Airport is a five-terminal airport, but only terminals 1, 2 and 5 are currently in operation. All three are connected by walkways, although terminal 5 can also be accessed via a shuttle bus service. Terminals 1 and 2 are reserved for international flights; return flights from the UK will arrive at either one of these two triangular-shaped terminals. Terminal 5 is the newest addition to RUH and is for domestic flights only. The airport includes amenities like ATMs, bureaux de change, banks, shops, restaurants, cafes, an information desk, luggage storage facilities, medical services and mobile phone charging, as well as porters, shower facilities and a barber shop.

Getting to the City from King Khalid International Airport (RUH)

To get from RUH to Riyadh, you can travel either by taxi or metro. Alternatively, car rental options and shuttle services are also available. Taking a taxi is one of the best methods, but it’s worth remembering that if there’s no meter, you should find out the cost before getting into the car and come to an agreement with the driver. And to avoid misunderstandings, have the address of your accommodation written down in both English and Arabic. Terminal 5 is directly connected to the yellow metro line (L4) that runs into the city and connects with other rail lines. The arrivals halls in Terminals 1 and 2 have several car hire agencies like Hertz, Alwefaq and Theeb. Some hotels provide free shuttle services, so you should check with your hotel before you fly.

Why visit Riyadh?

Riyadh is a bustling modern metropolis which can be seen from its grand modern architecture. Perhaps the best example is Kingdom Centre, which stands proudly above the city centre. On the 99th floor, the 56-metre skybridge has sweeping panoramic views of the city and surrounding countryside. When you get back to ground level, be sure to check out the shops and restaurants in its shopping centre. If you prefer soaking up the local culture, explore the Deerah Souk bazaar to find goods ranging from souvenirs to toys and spices – and don’t forget to barter with the merchants.
Take in some history by visiting the Al Masmak Fort, an old citadel that has been an integral part of Saudi Arabia’s history. The National Museum is state-of-the-art and contains an abundance of historic artefacts and information on Arabic history. Then visit the Ruins of Old Diriyah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, just outside the city. Once back in the city, don’t miss out on the colourful fountain in King Abdullah Park, which stands out beautifully at night.

Don't Forget Before You Fly

You will need a visa before you can travel to Riyadh, which you can obtain by applying through visa agencies accredited to the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia. Overstaying your visa can result in being fined and deported. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months after the date of entry. Female travellers must meet with a sponsor on arrival unless travelling with their husband or a male relative. It is also important to follow local traditions, customs and laws such as dressing conservatively and not drinking alcohol.
