When is the Cheapest Time to Fly to Skiathos?

Finding cheap flights to Skiathos can be tough, because direct flights are only available during peak tourist months, meaning that you might find cheaper tickets during the summer, but then have to pay higher prices for accommodation. On the other hand, off-season indirect flights may be more expensive, but you may make up the cost with cheaper rates for rooms. Luckily, no matter when you decide to visit, the weather in Skiathos will be as outstanding as it is all year.

When is the Best Time to Book your Flight to Skiathos?

As direct flights to Skiathos are only available at certain times of the year, it’s best to book as far in advance as you can to make sure you get tickets on this popular route. It’s possible to get deals on last-minute flights if you’re willing to chance it, but be aware that there may not be any remaining tickets. If you’re looking to party with the locals, then be sure to visit the week after Easter when the island celebrates Agios Georgios, a day full of feasting, dancing and all-round fun.

Flying to Skiathos International Airport (JSI)

Skiathos International Airport (JSI), otherwise known as Alexandros Papadiamantis, is located on the Greek island of Skiathos in the Aegean Sea.
All return flights from the JSI, except those to and from Athens, are seasonal, so if you want to catch a direct flight from the United Kingdom (UK) to Skiathos, then plan to travel during the summer months of May to September, depending on the airline. Direct Skiathos flights from London airports are operated by British Airways, Thomas Cook Airlines and TUI. Thomas Cook Airlines and TUI also run seasonal return flights from Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham amongst others, while Flybe departs from Southampton. If you want to visit the island outside of the tourist season, then you will need to fly to Athens first.

On Arrival and Getting Around the Airport

Skiathos International Airport (JSI) is known for its prime plane-spotting views, as you can witness low altitude flyovers of planes coming in for landing from the public road next to the runway. Within the terminal building, you can enjoy a coffee at one of the cafes before heading to the duty-free shop to snap up a bargain or two. There are also several ATMs located throughout the airport as well as access to free Wi-Fi and first aid if necessary.

Getting to the City from Skiathos International Airport (JSI)

Due to the small size of the island, there aren’t many transportation options to and from the airport; there simply isn’t a need for them. JSI is located less than four and a half kilometres from the town centre, meaning that regardless of how you decide to travel – either by taxi or hired car – the journey should take no longer than 15 minutes. Car hires can be arranged upon arrival, and taxis are available outside the terminal building during the airport’s operating hours of 1am to 8pm.

Why Visit Skiathos?

Known for its stunning turquoise water and its abundance of whitewashed houses, the Greek island of Skiathos is akin to paradise for both the locals and travellers that explore its sandy shores. Made even more popular after it was featured in the 2008 film Mamma Mia, this exquisite isle is home to some of Greece’s best beaches as well as spectacular panoramic views from atop some of its many hills.
Despite being only 12 kilometres long and about six kilometres wide, this picturesque island is packed with exciting activities and gorgeous landscapes. Spend your time island hopping, sampling delicious local dishes and uncovering some of Skiathos’s glorious churches. Regardless of whether you prefer to enjoy one of the island’s sixty beautiful beaches or take the time to meander through one of the sleepier towns, Skiathos is a charming holiday destination for all.

Don't Forget Before you Fly

British passport holders don’t need a visa to travel to any country in the EU – you can stay for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. You just need to make sure that your passport has at least six months validity left, on the day you travel. If you are residing within the UK, but you are not a UK national, you may need additional travel documentation. The official currency of Greece is the euro (€), which can be easily bought before your trip or during your stay. Not all establishments accept credit or debit cards, so be sure to keep some euros with you at all times just in case.
