When is the Cheapest Time to Fly to Marseille?

Although it is a beautiful spot to visit all year round, Marseille is especially popular in the summer months due to the warm temperatures and the long summer days. This peak in tourism results in higher prices, so the best time to book cheap flights to Marseille is between October and February when you won’t have to compete with any warm-weather travellers.

When is the Best Time to Book your Flight to Marseille?

When booking Marseille flights, we recommend that you buy your flights two or three months before departure if you want to get hold of the best deals for your preferred travel dates and times. If you’re feeling spontaneous and can be flexible, there is usually a cheap last-minute flight to be found. July is a great time to visit the city if you want to take part in the exciting and ever-popular LGBTQ+ Pride Parade.

Flying to Marseille Provence Airport (MRS)

Marseille Provence Airport (MRS) is an international airport in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of southern France and serves France’s second-largest city, Marseille, and the surrounding area. As the fifth-busiest airport in the country, MRS handles over nine million passengers annually.
When travelling from the United Kingdom (UK), you can choose to fly with one of three airlines that offer direct return flights to Marseille, depending on your preferred departure city. British Airways operates flights from London Heathrow, whereas easyJet runs year-round routes departing from London Gatwick and London Luton as well as seasonal flights from both Bristol and Glasgow. Finally, Ryanair operates direct flights from London Stansted and Edinburgh. If you wish to travel from any other airport in Britain, then you can fly to one of the above cities first before heading on to Marseille.

In addition to cafes, restaurants and duty-free shops, passengers can take advantage of several airport lounges, ATMs, currency exchange services and a handful of newsagents. The airport also has a first aid station, a business centre with paid access to the internet and several car hire companies to choose from should you wish to hire a vehicle.

In addition to public transport, taxis, private transfers and car hire services are also available.

Why Visit Marseille?

As the second-largest city in France, Marseille is ever-evolving, dynamic and rich in both culture and a history that dates back over 1,500 years. Located on the shores of the Mediterranean, the maritime tradition is strong in Marseille. One of the favourite spots for tourists and locals alike is the Old Port, the main harbour of the city, which is still as vibrant today as it has ever been. Further inspired by its seaside locale, tasty local dishes like Bouillabaisse, a famous fish stew, and Bourride, a delicious fish and aioli soup, showcase the best of the local produce.
Beyond the bustling boardwalks, Marseille is famous for its love of the arts. Inundated with theatres, music halls and the renowned Opéra de Marseille, this former European Capital of Culture is simply fascinating to explore. Spend the afternoon taking in the beauty of the Palais Longchamp or admiring the Basilique Notre Dame de la Garde, which are both great examples of the stunning architecture that can be found in this part of the world.
