When is the Cheapest Time to Fly to Mykonos?

The best time to find cheap flights to Mykonos is in the shoulder season. Look for flights in May, June, September and early October. Outside of these months, Mykonos flight prices will rise. In the winter (November to April), there are limited flights, and the island shuts down. If you want to enjoy the island’s famous party scene, visit in July and August.

When is the Best Time to Book your Flight to Mykonos?

For those wanting to check out the island’s club scene in the peak summer period, then book your Mykonos flights at least four months in advance. To get cheap flights to Mykonos during this season, try to be flexible with your travel dates. In the shoulder season months, you might also be able to find good deals on last-minute flights to Mykonos.

Flying to Mykonos Airport (JMK)

JMK is just four kilometres from the main town. The airport serves more than a million passengers each year, but this number has been steadily increasing.
Direct flights to Mykonos are available from the United Kingdom during the peak season. EasyJet offers direct flights to Mykonos from London Gatwick starting in April; beginning in May, the airline has Mykonos flights from Manchester and London Luton. Also starting in May are Mykonos flights with Thomas Cook Airlines from Manchester and with British Airways from London Heathrow, London City and Manchester Airport. Direct flights to Mykonos from all airlines stop in October. Outside of this period, you can take an indirect route through Athens with Olympic Air or Ryanair. You may need to change airlines, but this is not always necessary.

On Arrival and Getting Around the Airport

There is one terminal at the small airport currently, but there are plans to redevelop, extend and create a new terminal area over the coming years with some work already being started. There are limited facilities at the airport, although there is free Wi-Fi, a currency exchange centre in the arrivals hall and two ATMs that accept international credit cards. Business lounges are available. Duty-free shops can be found in both the arrival and departure areas. Some food and drink locations are available.

Getting to the City from Mykonos Airport (JMK)

There are a number of options to make the very short journey from the airport to the main town on the island. There is a bus stop outside of the arrivals hall where you can pick up buses to town year-round and other destinations on the island in the peak season. You can also take a metered taxi into town on a journey that will take about ten minutes. There are four car hire companies operating at the airport; you will find the desks for each of them in the arrivals hall at JMK.

Why Visit Mykonos?

Glitz, glamour, long, sandy beaches and nonstop parties: Mykonos is a top destination for international jet-setters and clubbers alike. The Greek island’s popularity is ever-increasing, and it is not hard to see why. In the peak summer months of July and August, it has a party scene that rivals Ibiza and its stunning beaches and incredible weather keep those who have put their partying days behind them fulfilled and happy.
Head to Little Venice for classic cubist Cycladic architecture, cobbled streets and bougainvillea-draped houses. It is also easy to make a day trip to the island of Delos, a UNESCO-listed archaeological site, from Mykonos. Excellent food is in abundance on the island, but don’t expect to find much open before 10pm. Settle into the Greek island rhythm on Mykonos: eat late, party until the early hours and stumble to one of the many picture-perfect beaches in time for lunch.

Don't Forget Before you Fly

British passport holders don’t need a visa to travel to any country in the EU – you can stay for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. You just need to make sure that your passport has at least six months validity left, on the day you travel. Greece uses the euro as its currency. ATMs and currency exchange offices are widely available and accept most international credit cards.
